While there are more or less continuous postings on Google+ and Twitter, this blog seems to be in danger of getting dusty. It's time for a little update.
Once more in print: A bookmarker for the Schlegelsche Buchhandlung in Weißenhorn.
Printdesign in Linux using Inkscape is doing very well except for conversion into CMYK. Finally, the simplest way to get that done looks quite nerdy: The powerful ImageMagick command line interface tool did the trick for me. I'm really satisfied with the result so far.
Pic2Besides the developement of the grafics and game physics we also made progress in building a artificial intelligence for the ships. Pathfinding and obstacle avoidance works pretty well so far and since lately, the computer-controlled tubs also shoot their weapons on enemy ships. During a short test the bots even managed to sink my ship.
Since lately, the particle system is halfway presentable, so I can post a short video. The movement of the sails in the wind is also visible in this clip.
There has been done a lot of work in the background, too. So the game generates small towns on the isles on which the player can dock. Currently I'm working on a user interface to manage the ship's cargo and buy goods.
Almost five months have passed since I wrote the first lines of code for this computer game. In the intervening time I've coded and learned a lot.
